Important Travel Considerations

An approved eTA does not guarantee admission to Canada. All travelers remain subject to inspection by Canadian border officials upon arrival and must comply with all applicable immigration, customs, health, and security requirements.

Travelers should ensure that all information submitted during the application process is accurate and matches the details contained in their passport.
Independent Assistance Services

Some travelers choose to seek assistance when preparing their application information, particularly when completing forms in a second language, reviewing travel details, or verifying that required information has been entered correctly.

Independent assistance services may provide administrative support, document review, multilingual guidance, and help identifying common application errors before submission.

Disclaimer

This website provides independent administrative and technical assistance services and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of the Government of Canada, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), or any Canadian government authority.
Applicants may submit their eTA applications directly through official Canadian government channels. All decisions regarding eligibility, approval, refusal, processing times, and admission into Canada are made solely by the Government of Canada.

What Is a Canadian eTA?

The Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) is a digital travel authorization introduced by the Government of Canada for eligible visa-exempt foreign nationals traveling to Canada by air. The eTA is electronically linked to a traveler's passport and is designed to help facilitate pre-travel screening before arrival.

Most eligible travelers can apply online before their trip. Once approved, the authorization is generally valid for multiple visits and may remain valid for several years or until the passport expires, whichever comes first.

Why Does Canada Require an eTA?

The eTA system helps Canadian authorities verify traveler information before departure and supports border security measures. It allows eligible visitors to travel to Canada for purposes such as tourism, business visits, family visits, or short-term transit through Canadian airports.

Who May Need an eTA?
Many travelers from visa-exempt countries are required to obtain an eTA before boarding a flight to Canada. Eligibility depends on factors such as nationality, passport type, travel method, and individual circumstances.
Travelers should always verify their eligibility and entry requirements before making travel arrangements.

Benefits of Obtaining an eTA Before Travel

  • Faster pre-travel authorization process for eligible travelers.

  • Authorization is electronically linked to the passport.

  • Suitable for multiple short visits during its validity period.

  • Helps reduce delays when boarding flights to Canada.

  • Can be used for tourism, business travel, family visits, and transit purposes when applicable.
